Chromatic Blues for Diatonic Players
Zoom Workshop: Tue 3rd December 7.00-8.30pm (UK)
Harp Surgery is delighted to present a special 1½hr online workshop introducing diatonic players to blues on the chromatic harmonica. Our workshop leader is world-renowned chromatic player, Joe Powers, fresh back from his latest tour of the US East Coast and Paris.
Many of the great blues artists can be heard playing blues on the chromatic harmonica. It produces a rich and exciting sound, which is quite different to the diatonic harp. If you’ve ever wondered how it’s done and where to get started, our workshop is a great opportunity to investigate the style in expert company. Here’s Rod Piazza hard at work meantime.
Our workshop includes…
• Opening demo by Joe Powers
• Guide to chromatic note layout and scale
• Unlocking 3rd position blues in D minor
• Basic improvisation using the D minor blues scale
• Basic riffs and how to incorporate these in your playing
• Note bending for the chromatic harmonica
• Use of the slide button
• Tongue blocking for harmonies, octaves and intervals
• Alternative blues scales (time permitting)
• pdf copy of the chromatic note layout
• pdf copy of our study melody and licks
• Q&A time with Joe Powers and Richard Taylor
