It’ll End In Tears – Top Tip

Top Tip

Never play harmonica having just chopped onions with your bare hands.

Alternatively try it and see how long you last. The Good Doctor managed three hours of teaching this evening and now has clear sinuses.

For gastric maladies, chop garlic and ginger too.

  • Hey Doc, How about this? Don’t eat hot pizza just before a gig. The burned and hanging skin from the roof of your mouth will clog the reeds. I love your site and all you do for harmonica.

A flagon of industrial strength Mountain Dew is the only known cure! Thanks for your comments Tony. Next time we order in a Domino’s Meat Feast at the Surgery, we’ll be thinking of you. Good harpin’ to you.

  • Can I add an anecdote of apprenticeship? (I mean, that’s what I’m here for.)

Don’t chop or eat chillis before playing. ESPECIALLY if you tongue-block. The chilli gets in your saliva, then gets on your harp, then gets on the outside of your mouth. Next thing you know, your face is on fire.

I practice harp in the morning before work….. . . . Porridge and harp do not mix!

  • Yo bublnsqueak – unless the porridge is time in jail :o)
